'Float', Canary Wharf|
From 16 September 2002
Canary Wharf Group has commissioned a permanent artwork by Martin Richman to enliven the Docklands Light Railway underpass at Canary Wharf, known as the North Colonnade.
The light work addresses the whole Colonnade area to create a unified environment. It consists of three areas of floating panels in a cruciform configuration which allows bright pink and violet light to emanate from behind the panels. Between the three panels are light wells which open up to the platform above. These have been lined with translucent acrylic light tanks which glow with violet light. In addition to the light emanating pieces the whole space has been painted with absorbent and reflective white paint to create subtle optical illusions offering surprising moments of glowing reflection.
