Cathy de Monchaux's work has not been seen in London since she was short listed for the Turner Prize in 1998. In the intervening time she has exhibited internationally with great success particularly in the USA.
Now, as a precursor to a larger project and in collaboration with the musicians Vince Clarke and Martyn Ware, she will be exhibiting some new sculptures and other works in the gallery space at her home in Hoxton.
As you enter the room three-dimensional sound envelops and moves around you like an invisible play. The air is heavy with the sound of whispering ghosts and sung incantations to prayer from around the world. The effect is extraordinarily moving as the layers of sound alternately sooth and alarm.
